We EXPECT them to preserve our greenspace

Village of Hazel Crest
Since 12 acres of the property are in Hazel Crest and the incorporated portion of the property borders Hazel Crest, it is a strong possibility that Diversified Partners, LLC would attempt to annex the land into Hazel Crest, where it would apply to rezone the land for the trucking development.
After outreach from SS4G members and other Southland community members, Mayor Alsberry said in a statement via Facebook Live that “Hazel Crest will not consider annexing this property based on this development and this proposed development plan. We do not want to do business with this developer.” But on September 16, 2021, Mayor Alsberry told the Daily Southtown “that he and other village officials are not interested in Diversified’s plan in the format that Homewood rejected, but would be willing to listen should the company come forward with something that is less industrial-intensive.”
Please let Mayor Alsberry and Hazel Crest Village Board of Trustees know that you do not want to see this space be developed; this property is valuable greenspace in the Southland.

Cook County
Since Diversified Partners, LLC successfully disconnected the Calumet Country Club (CCC) property from the Village of Homewood, the land is situated in unincorporated Cook County. While Diversified Partners is purchasing water and other utilities from Homewood, as utilities aren’t offered from the county, there is a possibility that he could pursue rezoning from the county. As the county also has oversight for the Forest Preserve, South Suburbs for Greenspace (SS4G) sees the Cook County Forest Preserve as an ideal and natural fit for the greenspace at CCC.
Please reach out to our two southern county commissioners to ask them to oppose any rezoning that would allow industrial or manufacturing development. In addition, please ask that they work with their colleagues at the Forest Preserve to investigate mechanisms that could allow the land to become a forest oasis for the Southland. Though many neighboring communities are fortunate to have forest preserves within their boundaries, neither Hazel Crest, Homewood, nor East Hazel Crest share this good fortune.
